SA Car Meet Tracker ("we", "this site") lists car meets, shows and cruises across South Australia. This page explains, plainly, what information we collect from you when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
There are two separate things that happen on this site, and they collect different information:
Just browsing the board
We log a visit each time you load the site, to understand traffic and which events get the most interest. This includes:
- A random, anonymous ID stored in your browser (not a name, not an email, not tied to you personally) — this lets us count unique visitors without knowing who you are
- The site that referred you here, if any (e.g. Instagram, Google, or "direct" if you typed the address or used a bookmark)
- The date and time of your visit
We do not store your IP address, name, or any other identifying detail from a regular visit. If you click "I'm Hyped" on an event, that click is recorded the same anonymous way, tied to your browser rather than to you.
Submitting an event
If you use the "Submit Event" form, we collect what you type in: the event's name, location, date and time, details, a photo, and — this is the one genuinely personal detail we ask for — your email address or Instagram username, so we can follow up if we have a question about your submission before publishing it.
Why we collect it
- To keep the event board accurate, current, and genuinely useful for the SA car community
- To understand which events and times draw the most interest
- To contact you if something about a submitted event needs clarifying before we publish it
Who we share it with
Nobody sees your data except us and the infrastructure providers that run the site — we don't sell it, and we don't hand it to advertisers or marketers. Specifically:
- Supabase stores our data (visit records, hype counts, and event submissions) on our behalf, as our database provider.
- Netlify hosts the website itself. Like any web host, it processes your IP address at the infrastructure level simply to deliver the page to your browser — this is standard for every website on the internet and isn't something we access or store ourselves.
Neither provider uses your data for their own purposes — they process it only to provide their service to us.
Cookies & local storage
This site doesn't use tracking cookies. It uses your browser's own local storage to remember a couple of small things on your device only: your anonymous visitor ID, and which events you've already clicked "I'm Hyped" on (so you can't double-click your way to a higher count). Nothing here is shared across websites or used to track you elsewhere.
External links
Event cards link out to Google Maps for directions, and some events link to external ticketing or social pages. Once you click through, you're on someone else's site, governed by their own privacy policy — we're not responsible for what happens there.
How long we keep it
Visit records are kept to track trends over time and aren't automatically deleted. Event submission details (including your contact info) are kept for as long as needed to review and publish the event, and afterwards for our own record-keeping — you can ask us to delete your contact details at any time (see below).
Your rights
If you'd like to know what we hold about a submission you made, or want your contact details removed, get in touch and we'll sort it out. Reach out via Instagram: @al_dagnels.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Worth a re-read every now and then if you're a regular submitter.
